Goliath Stick Insects!

The Goliath Stick Insect, Eurycnema goliath, is native to Australia. They can reach up to 300 mm in length and are common in the northern region of the country. Their main mode of defense is their incredible camouflage, but when threatened they’ll display the scarlet coloring of their wings and twitch their back legs around in an attempt to frighten or confuse predators.

  1. Speaking as a person who took twelve attempts at watching the big scene from Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom before he could sit still without twitching or covering his eyes, all I can say is AAAAAUGH!

  2. I’m frightened and confused even without the scarlet wing display. Yeek!
