Interactive fiction making a comeback, says Jessup
Young writer lad Paul Jessup wrote a great article on interactive fiction games that begins with an overview of the genre’s early days in Zork and ADVENT and its current resurgence as evidenced by titles like Galatea and Floatpoint.
I grew up playing text-based adventure games, as well as their progenitor, the tabletop pen-and-paper roleplaying game. This might make me a little biased but I always felt that the medium had too much to offer for it to be cast aside in favor of flashy graphics and multiplayer fragfests.
Like Paul, I hope that todays gifted writers will see the medium’s limitless possibility as an opportunity for invention.
