Richard K. Morgan says, “Ah, fuck it, why go on? Sure, there’s a reason, and that reason is blind prejudice. The mainstream critical world doesn’t like (or know anything much about or want to know anything much about) SF and Fantasy fiction for exactly the same reason British people on package holidays to Spain demand access to fish and chips and Sunday roast – because they’re too ignorant and self satisfied to look beyond their own narrowly ingrained and inculcated tastes and taboos.”

  1. Hey Matt. I tried to reply to your Twitter message before you wrote this. It’s not actually my birthday yet; I’ve still got three months to go. When I tweeted that I want a zeppelin for my birthday, I was just thinking out loud in response to some really lovely zeppelin images I’d just seen online (and possibly giving my wife some birthday hints, hee).

So yeah, no birthday yet. But thanks for the nice b’day wishes anyway! :)

  2. Hey, thanks for including my column, “Nerdology,” in your list. I agree that Sci-Fi/Fantasy does not get the credit it deserves, though many of the top novels ever published fall into either category.
