Now I’m not so internet-famous

Remember when we were talking about being “Internet famous?” Well, WIRED.COM has set up a new measuring system which scores your level of “internet fame,” and it looks like I’m back to being a nobody.I now have a score of “290.” WIRED didn’t provide any scale to measure my relative fame, but did provide some famous examples with which to compare, like Barack Obama (9,069).

So, let’s try this again! Give the new system a try and see how “internet famous” you are now. Leave your score in your response, and let me know what you think.

  4. Eeek! You’re within just a few paces of me, Groonk! All it takes is one stupid YouTube video like that “Britney Spears” kid and you’ll surpass me!

  5. I’m wondering how some of the famous types that drop by now and again will score? Ellen Datlow, for instance?

  7. With my website, I score 101. But with my blog, the number jumps up to 489. Which just shows that many more people are checking out my blog than my website.

Of course, it doesn’t hurt that a post I made a month ago got picked up by Boing Boing and Reddit and a few other places.

  10. Hey, I’m a zero. But that’s okay; I’ll just keep plugging away, writing my little reviews for my very small, and very select, audience. Sooner or later, I’ll be discovered in the corner drugstore when some editor sees me and says, “Kid, I wanna make you a STAR!”

  11. Oh, yeah, I had to try it. #2. But I can’t find anything on the site that explains what those numbers mean. Does this mean that only two people in the entire world link to me?!

  12. Michelle, that’s crazy – you’re a rawk star.
I think that this is probably one of those things that measure blogs that link to you and what-not. Maybe like Technorati’s “Authority” rating, which simply measures how many people link to your site.
Do you have a Twitter account? Isn’t that one of the things it uses to calculate your Internet Fame?
And remember, that’s what we’re talking about: “Internet fame,” which probably isn’t that great of a thing. Ask the Star Wars lightsaber kid.
