Enter the Octopus

Lansdale, Rucker, Baker and more at LitQuake!

Joe R. Lansdale and Kung Fu Panda

A few of my favorite authors, Joe R. Lansdale, Kage Baker and Rudy Rucker, along with Richard Bottoms, CEO of SteamPowered Events, inc., were present for a special Steampunk-themed Litquake reading at  the Variety Preview Room of San Francisco on October 9.  The event was organized as part of “SF in SF,” a series of monthly science fiction readings organized by author Terry Bisson and sponsored by Tachyon Publications, publishers of the Steampunk anthology.

Lansdale read from his novel Flaming London and Rucker read from his novel The Hollow Earth. Baker read from a steampunk-inspired short story to be published in an upcoming anthology and Bottoms spoke on the steampunk genre.

The very dapper Richard Bottoms is the one of the organizers of the upcoming California Steampunk Convention, to be held October 31st through November 2nd at the Domain Hotel in Sunnyvale, California. Several friends of mine are going to be guests there, including Jake Von Slatt and Ann and Jeff VanderMeer. Check it out – it sounds like it’s going to be a *brilliant* time.

Oh, and if someone wants to move me and my wife to California, I’m all ears, eh?
