The Rubber Dinosaur Podcast, Episode One: Charles Tan
Hey, if you’ve got a second, check out the first episode of my podcast, “Rubber Dinosaur”. I’m talking with good friend Charles Tan, a blogger and journalist based in the Phillipines. Charles is best known for his interviews with science fiction and fantasy authors, which you can find at http://www.charles-tan.blogspot.com.
And if you’d like to subscribe to upcoming episodes, or just download this episode to listen to later, drop by the podcast homepage at http://www.rubberdinosaur.podomatic.com.

Very cool. Should do a follow-up on the culture/mythos thing, maybe. First thing that pops to mind with Philippines is Cryptonomicon. But also what (I think you were driving at with the first question) what mythologies are there to be plumbed and such as that.
Very interesting perspective re: thieves ~ “gimme your cellphone!”.
Congratz on a first podcast.
Seems like it cut out at the end where you were giving the url to wrap up ~ “dot blogspot dot com. And I encourage people to check [fin]“.

As a random weirdness, I think GUD’s only published one Philippine author to date (a poet)–and he’s living in South Africa.

Kaolin: the only two genre titles that pops to mind when it comes to the Philippines is as you mentioned, Cryptonomicon (haven’t read it) and Starship Troopers.

There’s also the unfinished manuscript by Jack K. called “Manila” which is all about taking his fantasy baseball league on the road.
Jay Lake wrote “America, As She Was” (sic) last year, part set in the Phillipines.
